First battle to save our Family Parks lost by Gough's deferrment!

The fight to save our precious pockets of green, our family parks, from the ignominy of being "unclassified reserves" and the ultimate fire-sale of community assets .... IS ON! I have to go to work, but come back tonight for more on this issue!

Great to see Cr Ivan Reid actually fighting for what the residents of Manningham want, that is to keep our pocket parks. They are a unique asset to our community and is what draws people to our area. With the loss of the traditional Australian backyard due to multi-occupancy development, these pocket parks are needed more than ever so the residents of Manningham have somewhere close to their homes to play with their children, walk their dog or just sit down and enjoy the open space. It doesn't make sense to sell local parks to expand those which already are big enough. We don't all live near these big parks which means we would have to jump in the car to get to them. These pocket parks were not leftover from the development of the area back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. They were a condition imposed by the council at the time on the developers when the land was released to incorporate these pocket parks. The idea behind this was to allow families to have a place close to home to enjoy the open spaces and also increase the appeal of the area. It is 2010 and this principle still applies. Let's keep our parks and don't be fooled by certain councilors that they are not important to the community.
